PREPOSITIONS (PREPOSICIONES)

Tiempo:

In: se usa para los meses, años y estaciones:
In two weeks; In April; In 1999; In the 21st century.
On: se usa para los días de la semana y para las fechas:
On Friday; On 14th February; On Christmas day; On holiday.
At: se utiliza para la edad y expresar una horea determinada del dia:
At 8:00 o’clock; At night; At the age of ten.
- Excepciones: At Christmas (En Navidades); At the end of (Al final de); At beginning of (Al principio de)

Duración:

From/until: de o desde/ hasta.
The shop opens from 9:00 until 14:00. (La tienda abre de 9:00 a 14:00)
For: durante.
I was at the university for five years. (Estuve en la Universidad durante cinco años)
Since: desde. I have lived in Madrid since 1984. (Vivo en Madrid desde 1984)

Lugar:

Inside/outside: dentro/fuera.
I’II see you inside/outside the theatre. (Te veré dentro/fuera del teatro)
At: She’s at home. (Está en casa) It’s at the end of the street. (Está al final de la calle)
On: It’s on the table. (Está en la mesa) Your shirt is on the floor. (Tu camisa está en el suelo)

Movimieto o dirección:

To: She has gone to school. (Se ha ido al colegio)
At: He arrived at the airport. (Llegó al aeropuerto)
Into: entrar en. He went into the house. (Entró en la casa)
Out of: salir de. They’re coming out of the cinema. (Están saliendo del cine)
Across: cruzar. I’m walking across the square. (Estoy cruzando la plaza)
Along: por. He was driving along Gran Vía. (Iba conduciendo por la Gran Vía)
Towards: hacia. He went towards the river. (Se fue hacia el río)
Up/down: subir/bajar. She’s going up/down the ladder. (Está subiendo/bajando las escaleras)
Through: atravesar. You have to go through the tunel. (Tienes que atravesar el tunel)
Under/over: encima/debajo. I went under/over the bridge. (Fui por encima/debajo del tunel)
